New roofs are installed every 20 to 40 years depending on quality and type. Skylight life is closer to 10 to 15 years. It is entirely possible that you had to replace your skylights before your home needed a new roof. If the skylights have managed to last as long as the roof, you are probably lucky and you should probably replace them. Replacing them at the same time you put on a new roof is very cost effective. As a rule of thumb, if your skylights are older than 8 years, you might consider replacing them. If you think you might need new skylights with a roof install, we can help.

Solatube
Under the product warranty, Solatube® Daylighting System components are covered for 10 years, most electrical components for 5 years, and Solatube Smart LED™ electrical components for 3 years.

For a period of (15) fifteen years from the date of purchase, VELUX warrants to the end-user that VELUX polycarbonate skylights (Models CD-, CE-, CT-, CG-, CH- and CJ-) will be free from defects in material, workmanship, and that no water will leak through the installed VELUX polycarbonate skylight
For a period of (10) ten years from the date of purchase, VELUX warrants to the end-user that VELUX roof windows, glass skylights, VELUX modular skylight (VMS), SUN TUNNEL skylights, and flashing will be free from defects in material and workmanship. If a …product is found to be defective during this time period, VELUX will … provide a replacement component or a replacement… delivered free of charge to the original point of purchase or to the end-user.
Wasco
For units purchased after March 1, 2010: Wasco Skylights are warranted not to leak due to defects in materials and workmanship for a period of ten (10) years.
